Toshiba Supports Enterprise Demand for Low Power Consumption With Launch of 2.5-Inch HDD in A 3.5-Inch Frame

New 3.5-inch HDD frame delivers benefits of 2.5-inch features.

Storage Device Division of Toshiba Europe GmbH, the pioneer in small form factor hard disk drives (HDDs), today announced the launch of the MBF2xxLRC, a 2.5-inch enterprise hard disk drive configured to a 3.5-inch mounting frame.

Following  the successful  launch of  the 600GB MBF2600RC 2.5-inch enterprise hard disk drive in  February  this  year,  the  3.5-inch  sheet  metal  frame  was  developed  to  support  increased customer  demand  for  easier  access  to  stable,  reliable  storage  solutions  such  as  small  form factor HDDs with reduced power consumption. 

Toshiba has developed the 3.5-inch mounting frame to allow companies with data centre space limitations  to  utilize  the  2.5-inch  form  factor,  without  the  efforts  and  time  constraints  of infrastructure  replacement  and  installation. The  3.5-inch  frame  comes  fixed with  the  2.5-inch 600GB¹  MBF2600RC, which operates at 10,025 RPM, the fastest 600GB enterprise drive on the market  and  the  highest  capacity  2.5-inch  enterprise  hard  disk  drive  of  its  kind. It enables customers to unplug their existing 3.5-inch drive and replace it quickly and easily by slotting the MBF260LRC in its place.  

The  2.5-inch enterprise hard  disk  drive  supports  business-critical,  power-conscious  and  data- intensive  storage  applications  such  as mid-range  volume  servers, mainstream  storage  array and  blade  and  rackmount  servers.  In  addition,  it  delivers  all  the  benefits  of  small  form  factor technology allowing  for more cost-efficient energy consumption  including a  reduction  in sound levels, better anti-rotational vibration performance and a cooler  form  factor. The device  is  fully compliant with RoHS regulation.
